What are SAP Calculations?
SAP is the Government's ‘Standard Assessment Procedure’ for Energy Rating of new dwellings. SAP 2005 has been adopted by the government as the approved methodology for calculating the energy performance of houses. It is used to demonstrate compliance with Building Regulations AD L1A and for Energy Performance Certificates for new homes.
SAP provides a dwelling with a score of between 1 and 100, 1 being very low energy efficiency and 100 being a very environmentally friendly, energy efficient home.
The score is based on factors such as insulation, air tightness, heating systems, ventilation and lighting. Renewable technologies such as solar power are also taken into account.
At what stage is the SAP calculation carried out?
SAP calculations should ideally be undertaken at design stage. Sometimes changes in the original design of a house are needed to achieve a SAP ‘pass’ and it is obviously better to find this out as early as possible.
If you have already started on-site however, don’t panic, we can often provide practical advice on specification changes that will provide the required SAP pass.
Why should I use Midland Energy Services?
We are fully accredited and insured SAP assessors and therefore can carry out SAP calculations to fulfil Building Regulation requirements. We are also accredited to convert SAP calculations into Energy Performance Certificates (EPC’s) for inclusion in Home Information Packs (HIP’s)
We are independent assessors and therefore our advice and assessments are completely impartial.
Because we also carry out Air Tightness Testing (an important part of the final SAP calculation) and Code for Sustainable Homes Assessments we can offer an cohesive, cost effective service.
