Air Tightness Testing Frequently Asked Questions

Part L1A of the 2006 Building Regulations requires all new homes to be tested for air leakage. This is carried out when a house is nearing completion and is necessary for Building Control to provide the final Building Certificate for the house.

As members of the British Institute of Non Domestic Testing and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors we are experts in Air Leakage Testing.

We are fully accredited Air Tightness engineers and our tests are carried out in accordance with ATTMA Technical Standard TS1 and BS EN13829:2000. Our certificates are accepted by Building Control as evidence that the correct procedures have been followed. Building Control therefore does not have to be present at our tests.

We carry out Air Tightness Tests with minimal inconvenience. We will also provide practical information prior to the test to ensure your development not only achieves a ‘pass’ but achieves as good a score as possible.

A good Air Tightness Test result will give a development a better environmental rating, improving its saleability.
